Mall suspects were security employees

IOL Pic NS GATEWAY 1Two suspects who were shot dead during an armed robbery at the Gateway shopping centre on Friday, were working for the cash transporting company that they tried to rob.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane, said the men had been identified as Patrick Thulani Skhosana, 30, and Cyril Nhlanhla Ngcobo, 30 – both employees of SBV Services.

Mike Shipton, SBV executive head of cash in transit, confirmed both suspects had been employed by the company.

He said the two SBV security guards who came under attack during the robbery and sustained injuries were recovering at home. The identities of the victims were being withheld for their safety, he added.

Shipton said closed circuit television footage showed a four-man SBV team had been dispatched to Gateway to replenish cash at ATMs in a banking hall on the ground level of the centre.
