Toyota Making Taxi’s

TOYOTA South Africa Motors plans to assemble the Quantum minibus and Ses’fikile taxi vehicle at its plant in Prospecton in Durban.

The decision was prompted by a new programme created by the Department of Trade and Industry last year to encourage the local assembly of minibus taxis.

Nissan South Africa confirmed in September last year that it would re-enter the taxi market in about 18 months.

To date, the Quantum and Ses’fikile taxi have been manufactured in Japan and imported in fully-built-up form.

However, Toyota SA was unable to provide details on Friday about the investment it would be making in its plant to produce the two models or the direct jobs it would create.
